I was and still infatuated with Jodie foster- in spite of being made aware she is gay. Back in my college days, our group visited a now-closed theater in Thillai Nagar, Trichy – a place that holds sentimental value for me. It was there that I watched "The Silence of the Lambs" (SOL), a film that not only captivated my heart but also intensified my admiration for Jodie.
To this day, I firmly assert that SOL is the greatest movie ever made. However, my declaration often meets skepticism. Despite my passionate proclamations, others champion different cinematic masterpieces, from classics like "Bicycle Thieves" to "The Godfather I." It's a constant source of frustration for me when people disagree with my assertion. It just gets on my goat.
Whenever someone boldly claims "The Godfather" is the epitome of cinema, I counter with a simple question: "Have you ever experienced the brilliance of 'The Silence of the Lambs'?"
“well, yes but i know Godfather is the best”
“It is not, it is good but as good as Silence of the lambs”
“No, Godfather is the best, you know most of the critics agree with me”
i retort, “Who the duck are the critics to grade the movies”
"Probably because they know about movies than your ignoramus ass
I come back with a classic “Come on i do know about movies as the next guy, i have seen 1000s?
They shoot back, "Really? How many movies have you made or written a critical article about?"
I can keep on going but you know what will happen at the end- we will be throwing insults at each other families and never come to a conclusion.
See when it comes to “subjective tastes” - which is the best biryani to the best movie it is difficult to come closer to the truth. We can majority of the people think Godfather I think it is the best movie ever- but that does not make it true.
You can substitute "The Silence of the Lambs" with any treatment, whether it's IFT, sensory integration, or something as questionable as fascia manipulation. Your truth should not be rooted in opinions, not even if it aligns with the majority's viewpoint. You could survey 100 pediatric therapist out there, and they'd probably all mindlessly vote for NDT, even though most of them wouldn't have a clue what the hell it is. It is not the truth - it is a opinion.
We often form opinions influenced by our biases, unconscious preferences, and the prevailing hormonal cocktail of the day. That's how I believe I've reached the conclusion that "The Silence of the Lambs" is the best movie ever made—perhaps also because I've watched it more than 25 times.
Fortunately, medicine is not subjective or dependent on personal truths; it adheres to general truths. General truths are the truths which remain constant, unaffected by whims, biases, or the volume of someone's voice. say for example gravity, heart working, function of quadriceps. 2 law of thermodynamics and much more
Regrettably, much of what is written and taught in PT school often amounts to opinions. General truths, even in physiology and anatomy, are frequently disregarded.
Our treatments are commonly based on the teacher or author's race, the author's eminence, the subjective feeling of truth, the potential financial gains from a particular treatment, and numerous other biases.
if we want our PT science to bring us closure to objective truth the treatment should be grounded in biologically plausible theories, the number of conducted Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs), whether the RCTs measured patient-centric outcomes, the consistency of results across trials, and various other objective criterias.
So in PT if some one asks whats the best treatment for cerebral palsy, is NDT - o please shut up.
If you say “muscle energy technique is the best” - just shut up
If you say SI for children with developmental disorders- o please shut up
If you say, I know manual therapy is the best as i have seen it in 100s of patient- o please my lord just shut the F@# up and show me the data
Liked the way you narrated sir.
